Surgical Services

The Surgical Services departments include Pre-Admission Testing, the Pre-Op Holding area, the Operating Rooms, the Recovery Room (PACU, Post Anesthesia Care Unit), as well as Anesthesia and the Sterile Processing Department. The staff of these departments all work together to make your visit proceed seamlessly. While we do a large volume of total joint replacement surgeries, we understand that surgery is a very important event and is anything but routine. We aim to educate you every step of the way and welcome any questions you may have. We also work very closely with the surgeons and their office staff. Along with the Post Surgical Inpatient Unit and the Rehabilitation Department, we make up the Orthopaedic Center of Excellence, and look forward to serving you.

Nursing Staff

The Orthopaedic Center of Excellence is located on a separately designated inpatient wing and is part of the Surgical Inpatient Unit 2B. These rooms have been redesigned and accessorized with the furniture enhanced to accommodate the special needs of our Orthopaedic patients, especially those undergoing elective total joint replacement.

The most important enhancement for our Total Joint Program, Destination Mobility, however, is our nursing staff who have specialized orthopaedic knowledge. Orthopaedic nursing staff members advocate for you and your family and are a vital link to the development and implementation of your plan of care.

The increased specialized knowledge regarding musculoskeletal conditions enables our orthopaedic nurses to identify and treat our specialty population.

Our highly trained nurses perform assessments on the impact of these musculoskeletal conditions. Based on a patients’ self care needs, environment and their resources, nurses watch our patient’s activity intolerance, impaired adjustment, and acute pain, and plan education needs specifically to their injury or surgery, peripheral neurovascular dysfunction and self-care deficit. The value of this specialized orthopaedic knowledge makes our nursing staff best able to anticipate specific patient needs and potential problems during a patient’s stay to ensure a safe, effective and efficient care for all of our patients.

Occupational Therapy

Florida Hospital DeLand offers occupational therapy in our outpatient setting. If you require outpatient therapy after discharge, we would be happy for you to continue your rehabilitation with us. For more information, please call (386) 943-4690.
